Which HF bands have segments exclusively allocated to Amateur Extra licensees?

  1. AAll HF bands
  2. B80 meters, 40 meters, 20 meters, and 15 meters
  3. CAll HF bands except 160 meters and 10 meters
  4. D60 meters, 30 meters, 17 meters, and 12 meters
Why Under 97.301(b) the bottom slivers of 80, 40, 20 and 15 meters are reserved for Amateur Extra operators only: 3.500-3.525, 7.000-7.025, 14.000-14.025 and 21.000-21.025 MHz for CW, plus the phone segments 14.150-14.175 and 21.200-21.225 MHz. Generals start higher in each of those bands, which is why knowing your band-edge numbers matters on the exam. On 160, 30, 17, 12 and 10 meters, General, Advanced and Extra licensees all share the same frequencies with no Extra-only segment.
Watch out The choice listing 60, 30, 17 and 12 meters names the newer allocations, which are exactly the bands with no class-based subdivision at all (60 meters is channelized and identical for General and above).
Extra-only slices live on the four traditional bands 80/40/20/15; the WARC bands 30/17/12 are shared by all.

The following transmitting frequency bands are available to an amateur station located within 50 km of the Earth's surface, within the specified ITU Region, and outside any area where the amateur service is regulated by any authority other than the FCC.

(a) For a station having a control operator who has been granted a Technician, General, Advanced, or Amateur Extra Class operator license or who holds a CEPT radio-amateur license or IARP of any class:
