Which amateur stations may be remotely controlled?

Why Under 97.109(c) remote control is a permitted control type for any amateur station, not a special category limited to certain modes or station types. The rule requires a control link from the control point to the station, a control operator on duty at the control point, and the ability to shut the transmitter down immediately if something goes wrong. Because those conditions can be met by any licensee, the FCC places no restriction on which stations may be operated by remote control.
Watch out Repeaters and other automatically controlled stations are the usual example of a different control type, automatic control under 97.109(d), where no control operator is present at a control point; that does not mean remote control is limited to them.
Remote control is open to everyone: any station, as long as there is a control link and a control operator who can shut it off.

(a) Each amateur station must have at least one control point.

(b) When a station is being locally controlled, the control operator must be at the control point. Any station may be locally controlled.

(c) When a station is being remotely controlled, the control operator must be at the control point. Any station may be remotely controlled.

(d) When a station is being automatically controlled, the control operator need not be at the control point. Only stations specifically designated elsewhere in this part may be automatically controlled. Automatic control must cease upon notification by a Regional Director that the station is transmitting improperly or causing harmful interference to other stations. Automatic control must not be resumed without prior approval of the Regional Director.
