What may happen if the FCC is unable to reach you by email?

  1. AFine and suspension of operator license
  2. BRevocation of the station license or suspension of the operator license
  3. CRevocation of access to the license record in the FCC system
  4. DNothing; there is no such requirement
Why FCC rule 97.23 requires every license grant to show your correct name, mailing address, and email address, and mail or email returned as undeliverable can result in revocation of the station license or suspension of the operator license. The FCC now sends official correspondence, including license grant notices, electronically, so a dead email address means the FCC cannot serve you notice. Keeping your contact information current in the FCC ULS or CORES system is your responsibility, not the VEC's.
Watch out The idea that nothing happens is the trap for people who think the email requirement is only a courtesy; it is an actual condition of the license under 97.23. Losing access to your own license record is not a penalty the FCC applies.

Each license grant must show the grantee's correct name, mailing address, and email address. The email address must be an address where the grantee can receive electronic correspondence. Revocation of the station license or suspension of the operator license may result when correspondence from the FCC is returned as undeliverable because the grantee failed to provide the correct email address.
