The frequency allocations of which ITU region apply to radio amateurs operating in North and South America?

  1. ARegion 4
  2. BRegion 3
  3. CRegion 2
  4. DRegion 1
Why The ITU divides the world into three radio regions for spectrum allocation purposes, and Region 2 covers all of the Americas, North and South, plus Greenland and nearby islands. Since the US is in the Americas, the Part 97 band plans in 97.301 follow Region 2 allocations, which is why US hams get bands like 60 meters and the full 40 meter phone segment that differ from other regions. Region 1 is Europe, Africa, the Middle East and northern Asia, and Region 3 is southern Asia and the Pacific including Australia.
Watch out Region 4 does not exist; the ITU only defines three regions, so that choice can be eliminated immediately.
Only three ITU regions: 1 Europe/Africa, 2 Americas, 3 Asia/Pacific. Count west from Europe: the Americas are number 2.
