What is the maximum permitted transmitter output power when operating a model craft by telecommand?

Why Section 97.215 covers telecommand of model craft (radio control of model aircraft, boats, cars). Paragraph (c) caps the transmitter output at 1 watt, which is plenty for the short line-of-sight distances involved. The same rule also waives the usual station identification requirement, but requires a label with the licensee's name, address and call sign at the transmitter's control point.
Watch out The choice saying 100 watts confuses this with general HF power habits; model craft telecommand is deliberately held to a very low limit so these unidentified transmissions cannot cause wide-area interference.

47 CFR 97.215(c) Telecommand of model craft.

An amateur station transmitting signals to control a model craft may be operated as follows:

(a) The station identification procedure is not required for transmissions directed only to the model craft, provided that a label indicating the station call sign and the station licensee's name and address is affixed to the station transmitter.

(b) The control signals are not considered codes or ciphers intended to obscure the meaning of the communication.

(c) The transmitter power must not exceed 1 W.
